Chapter 9 of 12 · Beaches
A guide to the main west-coast beaches — from lively Patong to quiet Mai Khao — plus seasons and water safety. So you pick the right beach and stay safe.
The busiest beach: watersports, sunbeds, bars nearby. Loud, but everything’s at hand.
A wide sandy beach with room for everyone. Quieter than Patong, with squeaky white sand.
Cosy bays and a lovely sunset. Waves and surfers in the rainy season. Good for families.
Premium west coast, beach clubs, clear water. More atmosphere and a higher price.
A long beach with trendy clubs (Catch, Dream). Daytime buzz, dining nearby (Boat Avenue).
One of the prettiest southern bays, calm sea, a lagoon and park nearby. Locals’ favourite.
The north: fewer people, casuarina shade, a local vibe. Great for seclusion.
The island’s longest beach by the airport. Wild and uncrowded, for walks and sunsets.

The best beaches are on the nearby islands: Phi Phi, Similans, Coral, Maya Bay. We’ll arrange a tour or a private yacht with a route for you — no crowds, no overpaying.
For active days — Patong and Bang Tao; for families — Karon, Kata, Nai Harn; for quiet — Nai Thon, Nai Yang, Mai Khao; for premium — Surin and Kamala.
High season is Nov–Apr: sunny, calm sea. The rainy season (May–Oct) brings waves, rip currents and more red flags.
Yes, if you respect the flags. A red flag means no swimming due to rip currents — the main danger, pulling swimmers out to sea. Swim where there are lifeguards.
Nai Thon, Nai Yang and Mai Khao in the north are the quietest and most spacious. The south (Nai Harn) is beautiful but popular with locals.
