Before you go to Phuket: visa, documents, customs

Everything to sort before you fly: visa rules, documents and the TDAC card, what you can and can’t bring in or take out. So there are no surprises at the border.

Valid for at least 6 months from your entry date.

Electronic arrival card, free, no earlier than 3 days before departure — on the official Thai immigration site.

Recommended — not always checked at the border, but they can ask.

Coverage from $50,000. Not officially required, but check current rules before buying tickets.

Cash

From 20,000 ฿ per person; an officer may ask for proof. Bringing over $10,000 requires a declaration.

Can't bring in

  • E-cigarettes, vapes and any liquids/cartridges for them
  • Hookahs and any parts

Thai law is very strict here — violations risk fines or arrest.

Can't take out

  • Sea sand, coral and shells
  • Buddha statues taller than 13 cm
  • Jewellery/gems without a shop certificate and receipt
  • Ivory, turtle shell, taxidermy
  • Certain seeds and plants
  • Over $20,000 — must be declared

Do Russians need a visa for Thailand?
