Two seasons

High season · Nov–Apr

Dry, sunny, calm sea — ideal for the beach. Peak prices and crowds in Dec–Feb and over New Year. Best sea and sunsets.

Green season · May–Oct

Rain (usually short downpours, not all day), lush and cheap, few tourists. Some waves and red flags. Great value for money.

Festivals by season

Songkran (Thai New Year)
Mid-April — water fights in the streets. Fun and wet.
Vegetarian Festival
Sep–Oct — colourful processions, street vegan food.
Loy Krathong
November — floating candles on the water, very atmospheric.

FAQ

When is the best time to visit Phuket?

The best time is high season, Nov–Apr: dry, sunny, calm sea. The ideal months are Dec–Feb, but that’s peak pricing. March–April are also great and a bit cheaper.

Is it worth visiting Phuket in the rainy season?

Yes. In the green season (May–Oct) rain is usually short, nature is lush, prices are lower and crowds are smaller. Just watch the beach flags because of waves.

What is the cheapest month in Phuket?

September–October is the cheapest and quietest (peak rain). May–June are good value too. The most expensive is December–January and New Year.
